Perhentian Private Snorkeling by Mat & Man
Terms & Conditions
These terms cover both the use of this website and the snorkeling and boat services we provide. We have kept them plain and readable rather than filling them with legal language.
1. About us
This website is operated by Perhentian Private Snorkeling by Mat & Man, a locally owned and operated snorkeling and private boat service based in Kampung Nelayan, Pulau Perhentian Kecil, Terengganu, Malaysia.
We are not a travel agency and we do not act as an agent for other operators. When you book with us, you deal directly with Mat.
2. Accepting these terms
By using this website, or by booking a trip with us, you accept these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use this website or book with us.
3. Website content
Accuracy
We write the information on this site ourselves, based on living and working on Pulau Perhentian Kecil. We try to keep it accurate and current.
However, conditions on the island change. Ferry schedules, government fees, resort openings, sea conditions and local facilities can all change without notice. Information on this site is provided for general guidance and should not be treated as a guarantee.
Always confirm current details with us on WhatsApp before you travel, particularly prices, meeting points and seasonal opening dates. What is written here may have been overtaken by events on the ground.
Ownership of content
The text, photographs, video and design on this website belong to Perhentian Private Snorkeling by Mat & Man unless stated otherwise. You are welcome to share links to our pages.
Please do not copy our written content or photographs onto another website, listing, or commercial material without asking us first. If you would like to use something, message us — we usually say yes.
Third-party links and advertising
This website links to external sites and may display advertising served automatically by third parties, including Google AdSense.
We do not control the content of external websites or of advertisements shown here. An advertisement appearing on this site is not a recommendation from us, even if it advertises a competing snorkeling, travel or accommodation service.
The only way to book with us is through the WhatsApp number listed on this website.
4. Booking a trip
How bookings are made
Bookings are made through WhatsApp. A booking is confirmed only when we reply to confirm it — sending us a message does not by itself reserve a place.
Set trips and set times
We run the trips listed in our catalogue, at the departure times set for them. We cannot build custom itineraries, arrange custom departure times, or add destinations outside the catalogue, because boats have to be scheduled around each other throughout the day.
On a private boat you may adjust the pace within your booked trip — staying longer at a stop or returning earlier. The route itself remains as booked.
Group sizes
- Sharing trips require a minimum of 4 guests to depart.
- Private boats carry up to 12 guests. Larger groups are arranged across additional boats.
Changes after booking
Once a booking is confirmed, we cannot switch it between private and sharing, as the boats are already scheduled around it and other guests have been slotted in.
Service area
We operate around Pulau Perhentian Kecil and Pulau Perhentian Besar only. We do not run trips departing from Merang jetty or Redang jetty.
Season
We operate from February to the end of October. We do not run trips during the northeast monsoon.
5. Prices and payment
Payment is in cash, on the island, on the day of your trip. There is no ATM anywhere on the Perhentian Islands. Please withdraw enough cash before boarding the ferry at Kuala Besut.
- Prices are quoted in Malaysian Ringgit (RM).
- Sharing trips are priced per person. Private boats are priced per boat.
- A surcharge applies to Saturday trips. Ask us for the current rate.
- Children under 2 have a special rate — tell us their age when booking.
- Prices shown on this website may change. The price we confirm to you on WhatsApp at the time of booking is the price that applies.
Deposits
Most bookings require no deposit. For large groups, company trips and peak season dates, a 50% deposit is agreed at the time of booking.
Not included in our prices
- Marine Park conservation fee — RM30 per person, paid by you at Kuala Besut jetty. This is a government fee, not ours.
- Ferry to and from the island — around RM70 per person return, operated by the ferry companies at Kuala Besut.
- Lunch on longer trips, which you order and pay for at Fisherman Village.
- Underwater photography and drone footage, which are optional extras.
6. Cancellations and weather
If we cancel for weather or safety
We will not take a boat out when we judge the sea unsafe. That decision rests with us and is final.
If we cancel for weather or safety reasons, we will reschedule your trip to another day during your stay. We strongly recommend booking early in your visit rather than on your final day, so a reschedule remains possible.
If you cancel
Guest cancellations are not refunded. When you confirm a date, we reserve a boat for you and turn away other customers for that slot. Please only confirm a date you are certain about.
Late arrival
If you miss your departure, no refund is given. We will confirm your meeting point and time in advance and will wait a reasonable few minutes.
7. Safety and your responsibilities
Snorkeling and boat travel carry inherent risks. These include sea conditions, marine life, sun exposure, and the ordinary hazards of being on and in open water. By joining a trip you accept these risks.
What we provide
- Registered boats operated by licensed local boatmen
- Life jackets for all guests, including children's sizes
- Mask, snorkel and fins
- A first aid kit on board
- Guidance in the water, particularly for non-swimmers and first-timers
What we ask of you
- Wear your life jacket. This is required on our boats and is not optional.
- Follow your boatman's instructions at all times, in the boat and in the water.
- Tell us in advance about any medical condition, pregnancy, or inability to swim, so we can plan properly. We cannot account for what we are not told.
- Stay within the area indicated by your guide and do not swim off alone.
- Supervise your own children at all times. Parents and guardians remain responsible for children in their group.
Alcohol and conduct
We may refuse to take any guest who appears intoxicated or whose behaviour puts themselves or others at risk. No refund is given in these circumstances.
Personal belongings
Bring only what you need. We are not responsible for loss of or damage to personal items, including phones, cameras, jewellery and cash, whether on the boat or in the water. A waterproof bag is strongly recommended.
Insurance
We recommend that all guests hold travel insurance covering water activities. We are not responsible for medical costs, evacuation, trip interruption, or losses that would ordinarily be covered by travel insurance.
8. Marine conservation
The Perhentian reefs are a protected marine park and our families depend on them. While on our trips you agree not to:
- Touch, chase, ride or block turtles or any other marine animal
- Feed fish or any marine life
- Stand on, hold, break or collect coral
- Remove shells, coral or any living thing from the sea
- Leave litter in the water or on any beach
We will ask you to stop if we see any of the above. Repeated disregard may end your trip without refund.
9. Photography and video
We may take photographs and video during trips and share them on our website and social media accounts. If you would prefer not to appear, please tell us before or during the trip and we will respect that.
If a photograph of you is already published and you want it removed, message us and we will take it down.
Photography services
Underwater photography and drone footage are optional paid extras.
- Underwater photograph quality depends on water visibility on the day. We will tell you honestly if conditions are poor before you commit.
- Drone flying depends on wind and weather. If conditions do not allow it, we will not fly.
- Drone footage is supplied as raw, unedited files.
- Files are delivered after your trip by WhatsApp, Telegram or Google Drive link.
Guests are welcome to bring their own drone. Please tell us in advance so we can plan a safe take-off and landing. You remain responsible for complying with any resort rules or restricted airspace.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Malaysian law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us for your trip.
We are not liable for delays, cancellations or losses caused by matters outside our reasonable control, including weather, sea conditions, ferry operators, government decisions, marine park closures, or acts of nature.
Nothing in these terms excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia, and any dispute falls within the jurisdiction of the Malaysian courts.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page shows when they were last revised. The terms in force at the time of your booking are the ones that apply to your trip.
Questions?
If anything here is unclear, ask us before you book. We would rather answer a question early than have a misunderstanding on the day.
